Beyond.com is a job search website that has both the standard features of being able to search for jobs and find employers, as well as the unique ability to promote and feature your resume. You can use the majority of Beyond.com’s features for free, though they do have a couple premium features to get you the maximum possible exposure. Here’s how to use Beyond.com.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Start by creating your account. Fill out your name and email in the lower right corner.

Proceed by giving Beyond the rest of your personal information, including your current job status and how much you’re looking to earn in your next job.

Step 2: Industry & Resume

Tell Beyond what industry you’re in and how much experience you have. Then copy and paste your resume into the “Resume” box.

Step 3: Search

Type in a skill or job type you want to find, along with your location.

Click any of the results to bring up more details on that specific job.

Step 4: Apply

Read through the various description until you find a job you’re interested in. When you do, hit “Apply” to apply for the job.

Step 5: Setting Up Alerts

Want to get emailed whenever a new job hits your area? Click “Manage Searces/Alerts” in the right sidebar to set it up.

Click “Create New Alert” on the alerts page.

Then specify the criteria a job needs to meet for you to get emailed.

Step 6: Featured Resume Listing

Beyond.com works in two ways. Job seekers can go and search for jobs; but employers can also come and search for employees through their resumes.

Posting your resume on Beyond.com is free. However, you can choose to feature your resume to get more exposure. Featured resumes are placed on top of the listings, ahead of the non-featured ones.
To get featured, click “Featured Resume Listing” under “Resources.”

There are three pricing options: $10, $20 and $30. Someone who pays $10 gets ranked ahead of someone who’s free, someone who’s $20 gets ahead of anyone who paid $10 and someone who pays $30 gets ahead of everyone.

Step 7: Resume Distribution Service

Beyond.com also offers a resume distribution service. Instead of waiting for employers to come to you, the distribution service sends your resume to a large list of prospective employers and staffing agencies.
To use the resume distribution service, click “Resume Distribution Service” under “Resources.”

Choose which service(s) you want to sign up for, then complete your order.

Beyond.com is like a regular job search site, with a few paid bonuses you can use to get yourself some extra exposure. Using Beyond.com, you can find employers who’re ready to hire right now, as well as place your resume in a position to be noticed on a more long-term basis.

Craigslist is the largest free classified ad system in the United States. Because it’s free for most employers to post jobs, Craigslist often gets much higher volume than paid websites. On the flipside, for the same reason, employers who aren’t as serious may put up job ads “just to test the waters” as it doesn’t cost them anything.

That said, when it comes to finding a job, volume matters. Getting in front of as many employers as possible is an important part of an employment strategy. Craigslist can provide that volume, with thousands of employers posting up ads every day. Here’s how to use Craigslist to apply for jobs.

Step 1: Select Your Category

On the right hand side of Craigslist is the jobs section. Click the section that contains your industry.

Step 2: Refine Your Location

Be default, Craigslist uses your IP address to detect your general location. For example, it might detect that you’re in “New York City” or “San Francisco,” but it can’t detect your exact neighborhood or location.
Select from the location sub-categories along the top to narrow your job search to something in your neighborhood.

Step 3: Narrow Search

Enter a keyword to narrow down the search. For example, if you’re in the “Food, Beverage & Hospitality” section but only want to see job openings for head chef positions and not waiter positions, then type in “chef” or “head chef.”
You can also choose whether or not you want to see telecommute, contract, internship, part time or non-profit employment opportunities.

Step 4: Contact the Employer

The employer will describe the job in as many or as few words as they want. At the bottom of each job posting is a summary of the compensation and contact preferences of the job.

To contact the employer, scroll back to the top and send an email to the email address in the listing.

Using Craigslist to find and apply for jobs is one of the fastest, easiest and most hassle free methods of getting in touch to prospective employers.

CareerBuilder is one of the largest job search websites online. According to Google Ad Planner, CareerBuilder gets 38 million unique visitors a month in the United States – That’s 10 million more than its largest competitor, Monster.com.
CareerBuilder is 100% free for job seekers to use. You can use CareerBuilder to find jobs, to setup alerts for jobs as they come onto the market and to upload resumes that prospective employers can search. Here’s how to use CareerBuilder.

Step 1: Perform a Search

Type in a keyword on the left and a location on the right to begin your search. Alternative, you can search by job categories.

If you want more search options, just click “Advanced Search.” Advanced search allows you to sort by temp or part time work, exclude keywords, search multiple categories and more.

Step 2: Narrow Your Job Search

Once you get the search results in, you may want to narrow down your results. You can narrow the results by category, by corporation, by location or by posting date.

Step 3: Apply for the Job

In the search results page, you’ll have the basic details of each job, including a short description, the corporation name, the location and the posting date.

Upon opening the job, you’ll be presented with much more details, including pay expectations, job requirements, when the job starts and a full description of responsibilities. When you see a job you’re interested in, just click “Apply Now.”

The application process for each company is different. Companies process their own online applications rather than having you go through a CareerBuilder interface. CareerBuilder will collect your email address, then send you along to the company’s own internal application system.

Step 4: Setup Job Alerts

Job alerts makes it easy to keep track of when new jobs hit the market. Using job alerts, you can set specific criteria and filter for CareerBuilder to be on the lookout for. Whenever a job matching what you’re looking for comes up, CareerBuilder will send you an email.
To setup an alert, go to “Find Jobs” > “Setup Job Alerts.”

You’ll be asked to create an account.

Then enter your keywords, location and the frequency that you want to get alerts.

If you want to be more specific, you can use the “advanced” section to specify more criteria.

Step 5: Post Your Resume

Instead of actively applying to jobs on the market, another effective way of getting in touch with employers is to post a compelling resume. This allows employers to find you, rather than the other way around.
Start by clicking on “Post Resumes” in the navigation bar.

Then pick a method of creating the resume. You can either upload or paste, or build from scratch.

If you choose to upload or paste, you’ll be taken to a simple interface where you can either select your resume file, or just paste in your resume from a Word document.

If you choose to build it from scratch, you’ll be taken to CareerBuilder’s “Build Resume” interface. Here you can add relevant job experience, skills and other important data.

That’s how to use CareerBuilder to find a job. You’ve learned how to search for jobs, how to apply for jobs, how to setup alerts and how to post your resume for employers to find.

Monster.com is the world’s first online job search website. It started out in the beginning days of the internet, when loading a webpage took minutes instead of fractions of a second. Over the years, it has built an incredibly strong international brand.
Monster.com is completely free for job seekers to use. There are two main ways you can use Monster: By looking at the job listings and applying for jobs that interest you, or by posting your own resume and profile and for prospective employers to find you.

Here’s how to use Monster.com

Step 1: Enter Your Search Term

Enter a search term for the job you’re looking for. You can search by either job title or by skills/keywords. Make sure to also enter a location.

Step 2: Narrow the Search, be specific

Upon hitting “Search,” you’ll be presented with an array of different results. You can narrow down the results by only checking the boxes next to the categories you want to see.

Step 3: Choose a Job

Select a job from one of the search results.

Step 4: Apply for the Job

Read through the job description to see if it’s a job you’d be interested in. If it is, click the “Apply” button.
The application process can either happen on Monster.com or it can happen on the employer’s website. Go through the web application process to submit your resume and optionally your cover letter.

To search jobs and apply for jobs, you don’t need to sign up for a Monster account. However, to post your own resume or to create a profile that employers can search, you do need an account.

Step 5: Create an Account at Monster

Under “Resume,” click “Post a Resume.”

Click the “Become a Member” button to create an account.

Follow the on screen instructions to finish the account signup process.

Step 6: Uploading or Creating a Resume on Monster

There are several different ways for adding a resume to Monster.com. You can create a new resume in the Monster interface, you can upload your existing resume or you can copy and paste your resume.
Select how you want to add your resume from the drop down menu.

If you want to upload a file, all you need to do is select the file on your computer and Monster will do the rest. Copying and pasting is self-explanatory as well; you just copy and paste your resume into the Monster interface.
If you want to create a new resume, you’ll be taken to Monster’s proprietary resume builder. There you can add jobs, languages, skills, experiences and any other relevant information.

Step 7: Create Your Profile

To create a profile, go to “Profile” under the “My Profile” navigation tab.

Click any area to change or add information. Make your profile as complete as possible and put your best foot forward for prospective employers.

That’s how to use Monster to find and apply for jobs, as well as how to create an account, create a resume and create a profile.
